Abi Wade has a Cello. Yet somehow she makes music like this:
Yep, we don’t know how either.
Abi is from Brighton and is essentially the ‘one man band’ re-engineered for 21st century life. In Abi’s hands a Cello is an instrument to be explored and advanced, a seemingly endless provider of a cacophony of noises produced from plucking, hitting, bowing and more besides.
Add in increasing exploratory electronica and her music stands tall and proud, to be admired. Often the mixing of classical instrumentation with contemporary musical sensibilities leads to either OAP, Radio 3 rage or teenage confusion, often both. Yet Abi’s left-field approach seems to rise above other embarrasing efforts. Of course, OAPs will always be bewildered and teenagers angsty but hopefully this Cello mash-up will not be the cause.
