California Wives – Marianne (No Ceremony Remix)

Some music just bursts at you. It grabs you by the throat, stares right through your eyes and pins you to the floor. You’re arrested, stopped as if dead. The feelings songs evoke can be quite different, but in all sorts of different ways music can be completely arresting. That’s the sort of music we yearn to yell about on SGTMT.

Other times songs gently weave their way into your consciousness, gently wooing you over time. Even an instant dislike can sometimes eventually be reversed by the innate cunning and guile in some tunes. We post music like that too.

Remixes, in the norm, would fit into the first quality. I don’t give remixes much time to impress. If it’s not immediately dazzlingly different to the original then why bother? Too many remixes seem to be produced by bored musicians who’ve a shiny new MacBook and too few social skills to leave their bedroom in comfort.

This remix by No Ceremony of Marianne by California Wives fits perfectly into the second category. A slow burner but in the end decidedly beautiful, and a distinct improvement on the original. Like:
