DELS – You Live In My Head

October 11, 2012

Have you ever had a shower with your clothes on?

This evening Team SGTMT went out for a bike ride, in a torrential downpour, without waterproofs. One of us had brought lights but had forgotten the bit that secures the attacher-strap bit (COME ON, IT’S EASILY DONE). It got dark pretty quickly and there was loads more traffic than usual because an art fair had decided to pitch up on our route and everyone in North London was getting into or out of a taxi. After about ten minutes we were drenched to the point of no return. It wasn’t long until it was raining too hard to be able to see anything. Anything at all. The athletes returned back to our Headquarters, defeated.

We don’t need to try the fully-clothed shower idea now, we know what it’s like. It’s grim and there’s a lot more grit flying around than you’d think.

Having dried off and warmed up, we’ve been cosying up with the warm sheepskin-rug-by-the-fire glow of UK rapper DELSYou Live In My Head. It’s an exercise in exploring how lazy a vocal delivery can get whilst still remaining totally awesome, along with a softer and smoother sound than we’ve heard from DELS:

Here’s another one of our favourite DELS moments – his vocals alongside those of Andreya Triana on Bonobo‘s Eyesdown:

You Live In My Head is due on DELS’ five-track Black Salad EP, released by Ninja Tune / Big Dada on 19th November, with his second LP coming next year.

  1. Ephraim Zimbalist says:

When I don’t like something all that much, I resist the temptation to say unpleasant things. Unlike some others – but why do it? After all, it would be a strange world if we were all the same, and I suppose many people would scoff if I were to recommend ‘The Garden of Jane Delawney’, by Trees. This has a certain dreamy quality, but it’s simply not to my taste. No fault, no harm.

Tom, you’ve been Zimbalised. As Tom Conte’s character says in ‘The Duellists’ (one of my favourite films):

“Keep away from him, keep ahead of him, and put your faith in Bonaparte.”

OK, it’s not entirely relevant, but then neither am I.
