Stray – Follow You Around / Contract

September 30, 2012

This is something that hasn’t happened in a while; drum n bass on SGTMT.

Regular readers will know we absolutely don’t let any music from this writer’s favourite genre make its way onto the blog unless it’s the cream of the crop. It’s got to be wonderfully produced, inventive, and musical. This latest offering from London’s Stray certainly fits that category.

Follow You Around‘s simple synth line and electro beats show the young producer’s grasp of the delicate beauty this genre can display, but it’s the vocals scattered throughout the tune which really make it. Those and the slowly developing strings. Oh and that growling bass. This sounds to us like a classic that’s going to stay with us for a while:

The flip side, Contract, sees Stray deliver a tougher workout, with dark synths, choppy breaks and a snarling jungle bassline. His spacious and precise production values are still present, with the addition of a sense of creeping dread:

We’ve picked out Stray as one to watch several times before, not least because of his involvement in this incredible tune that saw us lose our composure for quite a while. He’s proving us right.

Follow You Around / Contract is the first release on SGTMT favourites Blu Mar Ten‘s label; Blu Mar Ten Music. With a first release like this, surely here’s a label to keep tabs on too.

Follow You Around / Contract is out now. But it on vinyl with FREE MP3s here, on iTunes and on Beatport. Keep an eye on Stray on Facebook and Soundcloud.
