Ultraísta – Smalltalk (Four Tet Remix)

September 21, 2012

Today Team SGTMT went out for a run. It’s a health kick. It’s happening.

Considering we haven’t been out running in a couple of months we were surprised to make it past the 10k mark in only an hour without feeling anything like dying. It appears we are SUPERHUMAN. The health kick is clearly not required and we will call it a day. Job done.

Back at SGTMT HQ and fully fit, we’ve been listning to Nigel Godrich‘s new band Ultraísta. Nigel has formed Ultraísta with vocalist Laura Bettinson and Joey Waronker (we’ve taken care to spell that correctly) who, along with Nigel, presses buttons and plays things.

We particularly like Smalltalk and luckily for us one of our favourite producers also likes that one, twisting it up into this gently clattering remix:

Thanks Four Tet, that really grows on you the more spins it gets. There’s nothing much wrong with the original version, mind:

We all know Nigel from his production work with Radiohead, Air, Beck and more. Turns out he’s good at producing his own music too, which he’s probably been doing for ages but given our poor research budget we don’t know about it. Ultraísta’s label, Ghostly, say this:

Favouring mantras over traditional choruses and distilling their compositions to the barest essentials, the band possesses the kind of masterful control over the pure anatomy of a pop song that only comes from having played a significant role in redefining the form in the 21st Century.

Well said. Get involved:

Ultraísta release their eponymous debut LP on 2nd October. You can buy it on CD in the U.K., and vinyl in UK or on CD in the U.S. and on vinyl in the U.S.. The remixes are on vinyl here in the U.K. but it looks like our overseas friends will have to import them from the U.K.

    “Well said.”

Giggling helplessly here. But fine music, fine music.
