SGTMT

Two years of SGTMT

September 1, 2012

Today is the second birthday of Sounds Good To Me Too (SGTMT). To celebrate we’re having a whale of a party at SGTMT HQ. It’s crazy down here. We’ve hired one of those party entertainers to make balloon animals and Tom has dressed up as a giant penguin. Oh the laughs.

We felt it would be most appropriate on this day of days to take a trip down the grammar strewn alley of old SGTMT posts and relive some of our greatest moments. Wow.

Any regular reader of the blog (Hi Tom & Tim) will doubtless be familiar with our occasional pointless and ill-informed rants; like that time we considered the Death of Music Blogging.

The best rants are normally delivered by the maelstrom of rage and slanted, bone-headed opinion that is SGTMT thicko Tim: Remember that time he tore apart NME? Or the time he slandered the Brit Awards. Or perhaps you enjoyed the attacks on Radiohead, Foo Fighters and Metallica. He’s doing a lot better since he ‘joined’ the institution if you were wondering.

We also took a 6 month tour around the other (admittedly lesser) music blogs that adorn the interwebs during our A to Z of Music Blogs.

Tom (the short one) spends most of his time delivering the sweetest tunes to have ever graced the blogosphere. For this we are forever grateful. His knowledge of DnB is second to none. Luke, on the other hand, is the most useless and incompetent member of the team. 4 posts in 2 years, pull your socks up chum.

With all this our fame has grown and grown taking in profile from Edinburgh Student Radio (wow), German Radio (wow), BBC 6music (wowzers) and even The Guardian (good grief). The world loves us.

By several country kilometres, the best thing about music blogging is undoubtedly the top notch tunes we get to discover. Some of our favourites of the last few years includes:

Daughter:

  1. Ephraim Zimbalist says:

I forgive you for not including Alp*nes, because you made me laugh. That is a commodity in such rarity these days, that it covers a multititude of sins. Incidentally, B*b of Alp*nes dressed up as a giant penguin for their ‘Frozen North’* party, and we still have the penguin head lying flaccid (an adverbial noun (or something, check parts of speech – editor) that is assuming increasing prominence (bad choice of word) in my life, so think on) on top of a bookcase downstairs. I tell you, a wander through our house is an education. From my grandfather’s Boer War medals (what an evil bugger he was) to the signed letter from David Attenborough (chant with me …. “Attenborough for God!”), we have it all.

*And yes, I know penguins come from the Frozen South. And so does B*b. To tie both themes together, he was once watching an Attenborough about Emperor penguins (whilst in an elevated state) and, when the commentary got to the bit about them standing around for months in the snow with little to do, said; “F*ck that. Unless you were standing next to someone with good chat.”. Ah, the optimism of youth.
