Daughter

Daughter – Smother

August 24, 2012

Three weeks today we will be at the Hammersmith Apollo to watch Beirut, one of our favourite live acts. We love Zach Condon‘s band and we’re really looking forward to more horn action. This time, though, we’re actually more excited about seeing opening act Daughter.

Daughter are now a trio: Elena Tonra, Igor Haefeli and Remi Aguilella. We’ve had them on the stereo in the SGTMT Headquarters Listening Room all afternoon. There’s not a great deal of material from them so far, so that’s meant a lot of getting up from our favourite armchairs and pressing play again. Our backs aren’t what they used to be so that’s not ideal, but we took turns and it’s ok when the music is this good.

We’ve been banging on about Daughter since 2011 was just a few days old, but we haven’t mentioned their latest offering; Smother:

That is so tender and delicately beautiful isn’t it? Just what we’ve come to expect from this band. We also particularly love Landfill from His Young Heart EP:

Oh gosh we could post a lot of songs here but we’re going to be restrained and stop there. Three weeks, we can’t wait!

Smother is due on 4AD on 1st October. Find out more about Daughter on Bandcamp and Spambook and come and see Daughter with us at their biggest headline show to date in January at Hackney Empire.
