Frank Ocean – Whip Appeal (SBTRKT edit)

If there’s anything that almost perfectly sums up our day-to-day lives at SGTMT it’s “pretty girls and sports cars” as Frank Ocean claims of his life in Whip Appeal.

However, there are key differences between our lives and Frank’s once we dissect the lyrics.

For starters, when we’re out driving we’re not allowed to put our feet on the interior décor (that’s not even up for discussion, we’ve checked, along with boarding whilst in the possession of a fizzy drink). We also haven’t had our license suspended (how would we get the kids to school?) Finally the vehicle we’re driving is better described as a people carrier than a sports car (the SGTMT Fun Wagon is much more practical, not to mention economical. We win?)

However, there are definitely pretty girls involved. Thus, Whip Appeal both perfectly sums up our lives and doesn’t sum up our lives in any way whatsoever. This is unsatisfactory. There’s far too much grey in the world these days and not nearly enough black and white.

We mention all of this because one of our favourite producers, SBTRKT, has fiddled with the song a tiny little bit, just a tiny bit, but to us it sounds a lot better. This is going to go on the cassette tape for the next journey in the Wagon:
