When I was 17 I didn’t own a mobile phone. I had a friend who had a massive Nokia (that’s not a euphemism) but only his mum ever called it. When I was 17 I also didn’t have an email address, they seemed mysterious and pointless, like owning a Giraffe, it would probably be cool but what would you do with it? When I was 17 one thing I did have was a band, oh yes, I was in a band. Wow. The thing is… I played the bongos. I’m not kidding… RIP Brother Jonny and the Monks.
Mercifully there are no bongos (though look out for the cowbell) in the excellent Casablanca. They’re all 17 and probably own countless mobile devices and other alien gadgetry. Because they’re 17 I should probably write some soporifically dull bore post about ‘potential’. The truth is I’m bored of potential. I’m old and cynical now and have seen too many useless bands with ‘potential’ not achieve anything. At SGTMT we’re interested in good music now. What sounds good right this minute. Well, spinning on the stereo at SGTMT headquarters is Casablanca. We like them, so should you.
