Lagwagon – May 16

The best Punk music blog on the planet is Battle of the Midwestern Housewives, seriously there is no contest. They earned ‘B’ in our A to Z and every once in a while we jump on blogosphere tour bus and head on over to check out their latest discoveries. If it wasn’t for BOTMHW I’d have pretty much no punk in my life. I’ll let you have a minute to digest that sobering fact…

Punk ceased to be cool (at least in a ‘hipster’ sense) at some point in 1981 but in true punk style, punk doesn’t care and doesn’t appear to have noticed. Go punk. In some ways it’s not progressed a whole lot since then but for me that’s part of the eternal charm and appeal. In a fast changing world it’s nice to have a few constants, punk is my constant (well, one of).

If you, like me, only rarely delve into Punk then check out BOTMHW’s top ten of 2011. We’ve picked out some of our faves from that list below including the impressive Crucial Dudes (worst band name ever?):

Also we’ve talked before about Cerebral Ballzy, one of the only current Punk bands you’ll find on Pitchfork or the Hype Machine. Any band that writes a song about vomit gets my vote:

The Copyrights are pretty hot too if you like your Punk a bit more, you know, pop.

Most brilliantly for 2012 Fat Wreck are re-releasing a load of Lagwagon albums. They’ve also offered up May 16 for free:
