The SGTMT A to Z of Music Blogs was launched almost a year ago and concluded 6 months later having methodically worked through some of the finest music blogs on the planet. It’s with mixed feelings that we’ve had to revive the series once more. I’m thrilled to get to post another one as researching and writing the series was a lot of fun, however, it’s sad that one of our original 26 blogs is now deceased.
The original ‘C’ in the list was the excellent Chocolate Bobka. Sadly they called it a day back in July so we felt it was about time to elevate another music blog onto our list. So, back once again, here we go: ‘C’ is Crack In The Road.
Origin – Crack In The Road was born back in 2010 and is based in the UK (though I can’t pinpoint exactly where).
Frequency and style – CITR just don’t stop, seriously, expect 5, 6 even 7 posts a day from these guys. It’s a great looking blog (making me jealous) and their normal style is whacking great photo, snappy descriptive text and then tune.
Platform – WordPress
Music taste – Indie, lo-fi, chillwave, electronica, synthwave and more. Expect beats, guitars and more of the usual fare.
Recent artists covered – Samoyed, Harvey Kartel, Pencil Pimp, League, Midi Matilda
SGTMT verdict – Crack In The Road are one those rarities in the blog world, they’re not on the Hype Machine. If any Hypem people are reading then please rectify this at once, this is one of the finest new music blogs the UK has to offer. No jokes.
Fortunately there is life beyond the Hype Machine as CITR ably display. CITR offer up one of the best looking music blogs out there, I meant that, I’ve trawled through hundreds upon hundreds of blogs whilst writing the A to Z and these guys are one of the best lookers. A wink from these guys and most other blogs blush, look at their feet, try and splutter out a sentence and then just vomit and scurry off in embarrassment.
As well as being well dressed, CITR also have exceptional music taste. They have quite a broad writing team but somehow they’ve maintained a cohesive music style but there is enough variation to keep it fresh and appeal to a whole bunch of different music buffs.
In summary, I’m very fond of this blog. I had reservations about going back to the A to Z, but 5 mins browsing around CITR convinced me there are still blogs out there that need shouting about, this one in particular.
Keep up the good work.
Honourable mention – Chipped Hip
