We love Washed Out (evidence here). Sometimes that’s all that needs to be said; ‘we love this, listen and then you will too’. However, at team SGTMT we like to ramble. Pointless drivel is our aim and ill thought opinion is our game. Or something.
Washed out released the synthsationally (see what I did there?) good Within and Without in July this year (buy it on iTunes) and with barely anytime to digest and absorb it’s full glory, Ernest is back and back with what I think is the BEST Washed Out song to date. Not kidding.
Call It Off has a head nodding drive and purpose that set’s it apart from the Chillwave joys of his previous material. Yet it maintains all the familiar stylings; Ernest’s voice has a gizallion odd layers to it adding a echoing but absorbing mystery, synth spasms keep the track pulsating but it’s the urgent breakbeat that really brings this to live. Can’t beat a bit of breakbeat (try saying that 10 times over).
