I love a good remix, I really do. Especially one enjoyed whilst watching Match of the Day eating Crunchy Nut Cornflakes. Though to be a truly fine remix one vital condition must be met; improvement. In my mind a remix that doesn’t improve, or at least do something significantly different as to equal an already good track, isn’t worth listening to. Thus, we don’t blog many remixes. However, this one took my fancy.
Jodie Marie is from the cold, wet, odd side of Offa’s Dyke known commonly as ‘Wales’. She’s one of the artists that’s all about the voice but fortunately her vocals have enough distinctive to stand out from the other shriekers and shouters out there. Summer Camp have taken the girl and guitar, and added a wall of mechanical beats and blips that suggest they may have recorded it with the assistance of an angle grinder and some rusty pots and pans. Love it.
I’ve kindly (I’m nice aren’t I?) added the original below so you can decide for yourselves whether the remix has bought some improvement. See below.
