I have one of those colds that’s developed into a throaty, annoying cough. I’ve been trying to beat it into submission with various potions but tonight nothing is working. So now I’m onto my dad’s recommended herbal remedy; Bell’s Scotch Whisky. Obviously the perfect way to enjoy whisky is whilst browsing music blogs and this evening I stumbled right onto I Guess I’m Floating (one of our A to Z).
IGIF kindly introduced me to the sublime Monogold. Their album, Softest Glow, seems to have been on the scene since Jan but somehow they’ve passed me by. Which is a shame, cos they’re good. They seem to have this knack of slowly starting every track. After about 90 secs you’re wondering where it’s going and fortunately they do go somewhere, but not in the traditional indie mid-song explosion, no, no no. Monogold seem to gently step up a gear just at the right moment. Spirit Or Something is a great example of this and also a quite pleasing track.
