I love birthdays! I also love lists. So being asked to list my five favourite tunes posted on SGTMT this year to celebrate our first birthday is a real treat.
I’ve discovered literally heaps of great music since I started babbling about music I like for your enjoyment. Artists I hadn’t heard of and now soundtrack my life. Or music from acts I was already into that I hadn’t come across before. It’s been a riot. Whittling down all my waffling to my five favourites was actually a challenge, but I’ve gone for these beauties:
Firstly, Gang Colours‘ remix of Lucky Paul’s Thought We Were Alone was magnificent and got me addicted to Gang Colours’ work. It’s that little female vocal clip that gets me:
Second comes the low-fi garage sound of Japandroids, a band with one of the finest names on the planet. This is Younger Us:
Third I’ve picked drum n bass from St Petersburg, Unquote‘s Hide Your Tears Because We Are In Heaven:
Fourth here’s Pedestrian‘s Hei Poa, from Gilles Peterson’s Brownswood Recordings. Deep soulful vibes:
Lastly, this is Trentemøller’s remix of Efterklang’s Raincoats, from their recent remix-swap-deal:
Happy Birthday SGTMT! Here’s to another year of great discoveries.
