Can we run a classic album feature on a record that was released just last year? Yes, I can, because it’s my birthday. And because it’s a great record. It is destined to be classic even if it’s not old enough to be called that yet. Somebody needs to clarify that rule for me anyway.
All I’ve been listening to today is Four Tet’s There Is Love In You. From the chopped up vocal bliss of Angel Echoes through Plastic People (named after his residency at the club of the same name I guess) and the grand She Just Likes To Fight it’s all perfectly crafted. Innovative but not self-indulgent. A melting pot of house, dubstep, downbeat and glitchy sound trickery.
Here’s Four Tet performing Angel Echoes as part of a BBC session:

While we’re at it, let’s throw in Four Tet’s magnificent collaboration with Burial, Moth, which isn’t part of There Is Love In You, but is definitely awesome:
Happy birthday soundtrack.
