We began this bloggerific tour nearly 8 months ago and since then have highlighted some of the best music blogs on the planet.
We thought we’d seen it all, but our last stop on the journey has seen us discover a land that we didn’t know existed. Like Chris Colombo in 1492 we peered over the helm and spied the future, a land of milk and honey, a place that maybe we could call home (too much hype?), we gazed upon the homelands of the Zaber Riders.
Origin – Zaber Riders saddle up in Basel, Switzerland. They’ve been pumping out seriously messed up mixes since January 2009.
Frequency and style – Zaber Riders blog about once or twice a week. Regular but not to frequent (bit like my dad before the old-age kicked in).
Platform – WordPress
Music taste – Techno, Electronica, Futurestep, House (and many variants of), Dubstep, Grime and Neil Young…
Recent artists covered – DJ Dunkelheit, Wandler, SBTRKT, Soul Clap, Rodion, Osunlade
SGTMT verdict – A variety of attributes can endear us to a music blog. Sometimes it’s great design or gripping writing, maybe it’s a selection of music that totally fits with your own taste or music that educates and challenges your palette. With Zaber Riders they score highly on most of those counts. Simple but dynamic design, short but sweet writing which gets straight to the point and some amazing tunes.
Now, I’ll warn you, if you’re an indie kid through and through you won’t get far with team Zaber. You won’t find secret tracks from the Strokes or the latest quirky Arcade Fire video, they’ll be no Thom Yorke dancing like your uncle. In fact if you’ve liked the previous 25 blogs we’ve covered there is no guarantee you’ll want anything to do with this, it’s quite different. However, if you can break out of your mould for the briefest of moments and just spin a few tunes from here you’ll surely be enchanted.
Spend some time with the Zaber Riders. Relax, pour a cold one and enjoy the music. Love this blog.
