I find the Chillwave genre fascinating, it’s filled with synth vibes and hazy tones right out of the 80s and at the same time most of the tracks sound perfectly designed, almost commissioned, for one of those terrible Ministry of Sound ‘Chill-out’ albums from the late 90s. The odd drum interludes from the track above seem right out of a Phil Collins nightmare (I mean a nightmare involving Phil rather than one of Phil’s nightmares…) but the whole laptop engineered experience is so obviously made for the SoundCloud generation.
Whatever you think of Chillwave you must admit Washed Out and crew have summer evenings basically sewn up, in the bag etc.
