We’ve reached ‘O’ in the A to Z and despite serious competition the winner is, drum roll please, Octopus Windmill. Hurrah.
Origin – Octopus Windmill have been extending their tentacles into the blog world since Jan 2010 and they’re based in Amsterdam, Holland.
Frequency and style – OW posts 4 to 5 times a week. Expect nice pic, well written paragraph or two, music track and finally a music video.
Platform – Tumblr (only the second so far I think)
Music taste – NMB is low fi central. Anything recorded on a cassette tape or preferably an eight track machine or reel to reel thingamajig will fit perfectly here. Add in the occasional chilled electro alt tune and you get the picture.

SGTMT verdict – I’ve been desperately trying to find out what an Octopus Windmill is. An Amsterdam cocktail? A fiendish knot I never picked up at scouts? Or perhaps a Haitian love dance of some kind? No one knows it seems, when even Wikipedia can’t tell you it’s clear the World Wide Web is not all it’s cracked up to be. From my detailed research (5 mins whilst trying not to get apple juice on my laptop) we must conclude that the name exists solely and exclusively to this super good blog. I’m not sure why that matters other than I love a spark of creative individuality.
Apart from a uniquely brilliant name this blog has other delights for you to explore; succinct and nicely crafted words, a simple but effective design and jammed with mellow and occasionally moving tunes. Octopus Windmill specialize in tunes to help the kids get to sleep, or to listen to whilst puffing a pipe in your armchair watching the sun go down. A quirky edge to it all keeps interest very much intact. The whole blog feels delicate, peaceful and relaxing. The blog is almost perfectly summed up by this post on Amor De Días
With Octopus Windmill you’ll have no hip-hop shouting for attention or distorted guitars bleeding your ears, this is a lazy Sunday afternoon of a blog. Love it.
