An Island – A film by Efterklang

I was smuggled into Efterklang’s show at The Scala in Kings Cross tonight. It was wonderful. Inclusive, intimate and playful. The band’s grins were even wider than the crowd’s. If you get the opportunity to see one of their shows don’t turn it down.

But I’m not here to write about the show.

The night opened with a screening of An Island, Efterklang’s collaboration with filmmaker Vincent Moon, an album-length film recorded over four days on an island off the Danish coast where most of the band grew up. Featuring performances from the band as well as collaborations with more than 200 local musicians, kids and the band’s parents it’s the perfect introduction to the Efterklang for anyone who needs one and a delightful experience for those that don’t.

The film is being shown at public and private screenings throughout February and March. Visit An Island‘s website to see if there is one near you. Or perhaps make the trip if there isn’t. I’m considering the screening in Helsinki…

Here’s a taster of what to expect:

I imagine the band will make the film available to download or buy after the screenings. I hope so anyway. I’d like to watch it again and I was kidding about Helsinki.
